Reaching this idyllic island requires a short ferry or private boat ride, adding to the adventure. Whether you’re arriving from Corfu, Igoumenitsa, or further away, here’s everything you need to know to find your way to Paxos.
Arriving in Corfu – The Gateway to Paxos
Most travelers reach Paxos via Corfu, the nearest island with an airport. Corfu International Airport (CFU)—also known as “Ioannis Kapodistrias” Airport—is located near Corfu Town and serves as the main hub for visitors heading to Paxos.
From April to late October, direct flights from major European cities operate regularly. The busiest travel days are typically Mondays and Fridays, with early morning flights recommended to ensure same-day ferry transfers. For domestic travelers, Athens (ATH) offers daily flights to Corfu year-round.
Getting from Corfu to Paxos
Once you arrive in Corfu, there are several ways to continue your journey to Paxos:
Hydrofoil or Passenger Boat
Duration: ~1 to 1.5 hours.
Several ferry operators run hydrofoils and passenger boats from Corfu’s New Port to Paxos’s main harbor, Gaios. It’s best to reserve tickets in advance, especially during peak season.
Private Sea Taxi
Ideal for late arrivals or private groups.
If you arrive in Corfu late in the evening and need to reach Paxos the same night, a private sea taxi is a convenient option. These boats operate 24/7 and can take you directly to Gaios, Lakka, or Loggos. Prices typically start at €450 per trip, though costs can be shared with other travelers.
Arriving by Car (mainland)
For those traveling by car, Igoumenitsa on the Greek mainland offers a ferry service to Paxos. Car ferries depart regularly from Igoumenitsa and take approximately 90 minutes to reach Paxos.
Travelers from Italy can also sail into Igoumenitsa or Corfu from ports such as Venice, Ancona, Bari, and Brindisi.
